Data engineer at Infordata Sistemi, Trieste. I work where brains and algorithms trip over each other — right now that means wrangling data, turning scientific discipline into something that occasionally survives contact with reality. Concretely: PostgreSQL schemas, Python pipelines, and RAG systems for EU-funded environmental research (REMEDIES, INSPIRE, KARST FIREWALL 5.0, TASC-RestoreMed, CLEAR-WATER).
Background in neuroscience — MSc Vienna (Zimmer Lab, C. elegans optogenetics), BSc Trieste (Tongiorgi Lab, BDNF in neuronal development).
Infordata Sistemi Srl . Database and pipeline work across a rolling set of EU-funded environmental projects — REMEDIES (beach-litter monitoring), INSPIRE (river litter), KARST FIREWALL 5.0 (wildfire prediction in the Karst region), TASC-RestoreMed and CLEAR-WATER. Schema design, data harmonization across heterogeneous monitoring streams, an XGBoost wildfire model trained on historical fire records and the Fire Weather Index, and an internal RAG system over project documentation. Increasingly, LLM-assisted metadata generation (GPT-4, Claude) for the parts no one wanted to do by hand. Stack: python, postgresql, sqlalchemy, fastapi, xgboost, chromadb.
Area Science Park — Laboratory of Data Engineering . Research fellowship building Python tooling for validation of Oxford Nanopore sequencing data, plus topological data analysis applied to FAIR-compliant datasets. The brief in practice: make downstream re-use of bioscience data less of an archaeological exercise. Stack: python, snakemake, pandas.
Zimmer Lab, University of Vienna . Master's thesis on C. elegans sensory–behavioural circuits. Tested a new optogenetic-and-tracking microscope rig, ran video analysis of worm responses, and trained DeepLabCut networks for body-part tracking. Stack: python, deeplabcut, imagej.
BIA Separations (Sartorius) . Chromatography runs on AKTA systems for protein purification, contributing to downstream method development for AAV and adenovirus vectors. Standard analytical assays alongside — SDS-PAGE, Bradford, PicoGreen.
Tongiorgi Lab, University of Trieste . Bachelor's thesis on the role of BDNF in neuronal development — PCR, cryostat sectioning, gel electrophoresis, in-situ hybridization.
Zingarate — travel diary. Notes and routes from a small archive of trips through Europe; currently Czech Republic (October 2025) and Scotland (March 2026, in progress).
Vocabularies — browser for the EU and FAIR controlled vocabularies (species, habitats, marine litter categories, environmental pressures) used across the projects above. Click any code to copy. No accounts, no framework.
SM-Knowledge-Base — internal retrieval-augmented Q&A over Infordata's project documentation, built with fastapi, chromadb and a cross-encoder re-ranker. Not public.
GoCheckIt — data-quality monitoring sidecar that watches production schemas for shape and content drift. python, yaml, streamlit. Internal.
Master in Data Management and Curation (MDMC) . Ten-month professional programme, 60 ECTS, on FAIR-by-design research data management — open science, RDM, scientific Python, cloud infrastructure, AI for scientific applications.
MSc in Neuroscience . Cellular and molecular neurobiology, neuroanatomy, neuropharmacology, molecular neurophysiology, cognitive neuroscience. Thesis at the Zimmer Lab in Vienna.
BSc in Biology . Foundations across general biology, chemistry, anatomy, molecular biology and genetics. Thesis at the Tongiorgi Lab.
